Graduates from Hereford College of Arts celebrated the defining moment of their degree studies this week, joined by acclaimed artist and campaigner Bob and Roberta Smith for the college’s annual graduation ceremony.
Your art is your soul. Your art is your voice, your desire to make things, your ability to design things, your ability to shape the future, your enjoyment of shape and form, your enjoyment of your fellow human beings. That is your soul, that is your heart and it’s your art. Art is like love. Art exists between us. To call yourself an Artist is a bit like yourself a ‘lovist’. Because art exists at everyone’s fingertips all you need is a piece of paper in a pencil. Art is your human right. Look, listen, make things.

Graduation is always an incredibly proud moment for the whole HCA community. Staff from every department of the college are cheering them on, in person and in spirit, having supported their progress from the very first day, with care and ambition. It is an opportunity to celebrate not only the qualifications and prizes graduates have achieved the during their time here, but the personal journeys they have been on and the tenacity, bravery, vision that underpin the artists, designers, makers and creative professionals they have become. This graduating class has already begun making its mark through exhibitions, awards and professional recognition; graduation marks a new chapter for them and is really about looking forward. We are excited to see where their talent takes them next.
