These workshops are designed specifically for those who are attending high school, and love the arts. Whether it’s painting and drawing, design, media, or music, these workshops aim to provide a creative outlet for young people during the summer holidays. Working alongside our expert teaching staff and accessing our specialist resources: each workshop provides an opportunity to learn new skills and make like-minded friends.

There will be a variety of workshops to choose from for each day. The day will be split in to a morning and afternoon session (apart from Drawing Portraits and Painting Portraits).

Illustration: Design and make your own Puzzle Purse with Lydia Hand

Learn to design and make a paper folding technique from 1800’s. The Victorians used these origami riddles as secret friendship tokens and love notes. You will choose a chapter of your favourite book or a poem/song of your choice, then you will design and make with mixed media. You will take home a finished puzzle purse ready to post to a friend or family member. Please bring along your favourite book, poem or song.

Textiles: Learn Machine Knitting Basics with John Sanders

Using a variety of yarns and materials combined with some simple machine knit techniques, you will develop a small series of knitted samples that will explore texture, colour and finish. You will learn how a single bed knitting machine works along with beginners knit skills such as casting on, casting off, tuck stitch, fringing, jersey knit, stripes, and ripple stitch. No previous Knit experience is required. Please feel free to bring some reference material/inspiration images from which you might like to work.

Digital Photography with Matt Davies

Learn the fundamentals of digital photography using a DSLR and some fun with studio portraiture using off-camera flash.

You will learn basic jewellery making skills with the outcome of creating a finished jewellery set, earrings and necklace!

Whether you are a solo artist, a duo, or a band. Whether you play folk, rap, r’n’b, alternative or heavy metal. Whether you sing, play the drums, guitar or keyboards this workshop will focus on teaching techniques and skills that will enhance stage performance. If you’ve never performed in front of an audience before, or have some experience of playing live, the workshop will incorporate influences from all genres to maximise confidence, self esteem and stage craft. The aim is to get one song completed and then performed in front of your contemporaries.

Fancy becoming an animator for a day? Come along to this fun taster workshop and try your hand at a variety of animation techniques. You will be using Wacom drawing tablets and industry standard software to produce fun, short form, looping animations. Our digital skills demonstrator will guide you through the processes step by step. No previous animation experience necessary.

Drawing Portraits (please note, full day workshop) with Lexi Strauss 

This workshop is paired with ‘Painting Portraits’, they can be taken as a pair but booked separately. The first day of the workshop we will explore head proportions and facial features in detail, through drawing from life. The second day we will look at colour theory for mixing paint, and create a portrait from an image using a grid, and a limited palette.
