Biography

Dr Oliver Cameron-Swan is a photographer, lecturer, and educational researcher. He has over twenty-eight years’ experience as a professional social photographer, and is currently researching the impact photography can have on creative craft practices.

Graduating from Suffolk College of Art in 1996, Oliver has worked extensively as an event photographer within the cruiseline industry, before setting up his own social photography business in 2003. In 2013 he turned to teaching. A desire to improve his practice and continue learning lead him to apply for a place on the University of Sunderland’s Education and Training Foundation sponsored Practitioner Research Programme, from which he graduated with a doctorate in 2025.

He lectures on the value of documentary photography within a creative craft practice, working with students studying at Hereford College of Arts’ School of Materials and Design to help them record their experience and craft processes, and showcase their work. Away from the Art College he teaches art and design at The Cart Shed, a mental health and wellbeing charity.
