Biography

Clare Woods is a celebrated painter and Royal Academician whose dynamic works explore emotional contrasts through bold colour and form. Her international exhibitions and public commissions reflect a career of powerful, thought-provoking artistry.

Clare Woods is a world-renowned Hampshire-born painter, who was elected as a Royal Academician for Painting in 2022. Clare studied BA Fine Art at Bath College of Art before completing a MA in Fine Art at Goldsmith’s College in London.  Since leaving Goldsmith’s she exhibited extensively in the UK, Europe and the USA, and was shortlisted for the Beck’s Future Prize in 2001. As well as selling her art world-wide, she has completed commissions for  the Olympic Delivery Authority, Transport for London and VIA University College, Denmark

Clare’s work predominately looks at contrast, where two extremes meet, being scared and fascinated at the same time.  Here paintings have been described as points between something abstract that has lots of endless possibilities and something that is based in reality with a set of rules.  She paints with enamel, gloss paint, acrylics and oils.

She has had solo shows in London, Berlin and Madrid and her work features in a number of private and national collections.
