Mia Oakey

2026 Degree Show - brand design by Dan Harris

BA(Hons) Fine Art

About the artist:

I am a mixed media artist that specializes in textile work such as crochet, costume making as well as Linocut print.

My work largely utilizes anthrozoomorphic imagery. I play with ideas of self identity and childhood, as well as delving into creating my own alternate world.

About this project:

‘Welcome to The Weird World’ is a series of mixed media works, revolving around ‘The Weird World’ a parallel world of animal-human hybrids and other odd creatures.

In the weird world self expression and ‘weirdness’ is completely unhindered, creating a safe space that lacks judgement and being seen as ‘other.’ For this I have made an anthropomorphized version of myself, a cartoony bull terrier and have created a life-sized costume of her.

My Lino print, digital illustrations and plushies all portray characters who inhabit the weird world, as well as creating a physical space to sit and feel comfortable in.
