Kicking off the public opening of the 2026 Degree Show, join us for a day of free workshops or just explore the show through a Curious Characters art trail.

What is Family Day at the Degree Show?

Join us on the opening day of the 2026 Degree Show for a relaxed, family-friendly celebration packed with creativity and hands-on fun. Throughout the day, you can drop in to a variety of workshops designed to be accessible for all ages: no booking or prior experience needed!

Younger visitors can embark on our Curious Character Art Trail, an interactive adventure that encourages exploration across the exhibition. As they move through the space, they’ll discover a series of hidden characters to add to their collection! The more they explore, the more they’ll find, and those who complete the trail can claim a special prize at the end.

Our Creative Cafe will be opening all day serving drinks and snacks, and it is the perfect opportunity to visit our beautiful campus and join us in celebrating our creative community.

What's On

Painting Workshop – ‘Mess Matters’

Guided by our graduating BA (Hons) Fine Art student Liv Goddard, this painting workshop is open to all and you can drop in at any point. In line with Liv’s own creative practice, the workshop has been designed to cater to all and all levels of painting experience. Liv says ‘my role is to create an environment that feels safe and welcoming. I am hoping to solidify that painting is for everyone and that you don’t have to be ‘good’ at it to do it.’

Metalworking Workshop – ‘Repousse’

Our Level 5 Artist Blacksmithing students will host a ‘repousse’ workshop, where participants can create images on metal by engraving with a small hammer. This family friendly workshop, which our students recently took to the family activity tent at Hay Festival, is a fun way to explore one of the many forms metal working can take.

Curious Character Art Trail

Younger visitors can follow our art trail and collect all 11 HCA characters dotted throughout our degree show. The more you explore, the more characters you find! If you collect all 11 characters come back to reception and we will give you a prize!
