Course Information
The projects we will be exploring will be varied and ambitious. It is likely that you will be developing upon skillsets that you have built previously, but importantly you will be exploring new creative avenues as well. From textiles and photography, to illustration and ceramics, your first few months will explore a lot of content that might be new to you. We will be with you to support you every step of the way – just bring an open mind, enthusiasm and a will to work hard and you will be creating some fantastic work in new fields in no time at all.
Throughout the year you will have the opportunity to go on industry related trips and enjoy visits from industry professionals. Bookings for these will be made in advance and it will be necessary for you to provide payment and completed consent forms at enrolment, before being allowed on any trip. Details for all trips and visits will be advised, where possible, two weeks in advance.
To aid and support your learning you will be expected to bring with you to college on the first day of term, and to keep with you throughout your course, the following:
A3 Sketchbook and pencils (Example & Example) – Essential.*
Although we are primarily digital in our process we will be using traditional methods to explore processes, develop concepts, and test ideas. An A3 sketchbook and selection of pencils will enable you to generate ideas and concepts much faster than on a screen.
Refillable water bottle (Example) - Essential.
We encourage sustainable practices as much as possible at college, there are water fountains around the building for you to fill up a water bottle. Please ensure you have a sealable lid to avoid any spillages near our computers.
Wired headphones (Example) – Essential.
We will extensively work with audio both in relation to recording/capturing, and in post-production. As well as this, part of the more independent nature of being at college is having the freedom to listen to music or podcasts when working on projects. For these reasons, please being with you a pair of wired headphones that can connect to your workstation PC. Please note Bluetooth or wireless headphones will not work with our computers – so please bring wired ones.
Please note – the items marked by an asterisk (*) are available from the college shop, which is located in Reception at the Folly Lane campus. Opening hours during term time are:
Monday – Thursday: 8.30am – 4.30pm
Friday: 8.30am – 4pm

Please note – students will be reviewed in the first six weeks of each year to assess their academic progress.
Students aged 16-18 who have not achieved grade 4/C or above in GCSE English Language or English Literature and/or Maths will be required to study either GCSE or Functional Skills at an appropriate level as part of their course.
Unit 4: Researching a Specialist Industry Practice
Unit 5: Specialist Technical Skills Development
Unit 6: Specialist Creative Outcome
