Susan Cross was born in Ledbury and grew up in Hereford. In 1982 she completed her art Foundation Studies course at Herefordshire College of Art & Design and then went on study a degree in Jewellery at Middlesex Polytechnic.
Susan set up her first studio in London and then re-located to Edinburgh in 1989, where she still lives and lectures at Edinburgh College of Art. She has continued to develop her practice, exhibiting her work both nationally and within the international arena. Alongside a demanding exhibition schedule Susan has also been invited to initiate projects and workshops in Finland, India and most recently New Zealand.
In 1999 she was awarded a travel bursary by the Scottish Arts Council to visit Japan and in 1997 she was invited to become a freeman of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmith’s and also the City of London.
Susan was short listed and subsequently won the prestigious Jerwood Applied Arts Award for Jewellery in 2007. Her work can be seen in numerous public collections including: V&A Museum, National Museums of Scotland, The Craft Council, the Worshipful Company of Goldsmith’s and Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery.
