Fine Art hosted its first Visual Arts Symposium in March. Students from across the disciplines at College Road Campus were joined by some students from The Portfolio Course (based at Folly Lane Campus), and were inspired by the artwork and working practices of Suzanne Beautyman, Dan Haworth-Salter and Simon Denison, as well as Alii Neal and I (Celia Johnson) from the Fine Art department.

It was a fabulous opportunity to listen to lecturers talk about not only their own practice and the concerns that underpin their work, but also how their careers have developed and what brought them to Hereford.  Albeit teaching across different subjects and using different media, there were significant overlaps in the lecturers’ practice, interest and engagement with the world.

Feedback from the Symposium has been very positive; it was a fantastic HCA Community event that fostered cross disciplinary dialogue among both students and staff and we hope to host another next year.
