Pushing the Envelope

The 6th of May 2015 sees the 175th anniversary of the first ever postage stamp – The Penny Black – and in order to mark this anniversary, Hereford College of Arts, House of Illustration and Hay Festivals will be co-hosting a touring exhibition of over 150 decorated envelopes created by artists from around the globe.

The 6th of May 2015 sees the 175th anniversary of the first ever postage stamp – The Penny Black – and in order to mark this anniversary, Hereford College of Arts, House of Illustration and Hay Festivals will be co-hosting a touring exhibition of over 150 decorated envelopes created by artists from around the globe.

As well as an opportunity to see the work of some leading international illustrators, there will be chances to take part in workshops and hear invited guest speakers – all of which will help mark and celebrate the special and enduring relationship between the postage stamp and illustration. Come along and hear about the past and the future of the humble postage stamp!

The envelopes can be seen at the following venues during the dates shown:

Hereford College of Arts – College Road campus – Friday 17th April until Friday 1st of May. Exhibition, speakers, workshops. Speakers on Thursday 30th April

House of Illustration, Granary Square, London – Wednesday 6th May until Saturday 16th of May. Exhibition, speakers, workshops TBC

The Hay Literary Festival – Hay on Wye – Thursday 21st of May until Sunday 31st of May. Exhibition, speakers. Workshops on Thursday 28th May only
