Spring and Summer Creative Workshops for 11-16 year olds!

These workshops are designed specifically for those who are attending high school, and love the arts. Whether it’s drawing, design, media or graphics, these workshops aim to provide a creative outlet for young people during February half term and in the summer holidays.

Working alongside our expert teaching staff and accessing our specialist resources, each workshop provides an opportunity to learn new skills and make like-minded friends. Choose from an inspiring range of workshops on offer.

Film Making

Make a film in a day! Working in teams, participants will work against the clock to plan, storyboard, shoot, act and edit their films (complete with sound effects and music) and by the end of the day their movie is complete! There will be a screening of the finished films at the end of the day and each participant will receive a copy of their completed film to keep.

3D Workshop – Create and Make

Get creative in the 3D workshop and make something amazing. This workshop combines all the elements of design, processing and making, using 21st Century technology.

Learn to Sew

Learn how to make a box bottomed bag and embellish it with your own applique design. Bring an old item of clothing with pockets and transform it into something useful or fun.

HCA’s Young Apprentice

Calling all future entrepreneurs! This exciting one-day workshop has been designed especially to combine business and creativity. Directed by a project manager, you will go head to head in teams to complete a task of designing, branding and pitching your own product.

Writing for Performance (two day workshop)

A two-day intensive writing workshop for young people with a keen interest in writing and performing their own work. Students will explore imagination and improvisation techniques in order to create a piece of writing for performance and will have the opportunity to film, record and perform their final piece to the group.

Digital Studio Photography

This workshop explores the creative possibilities of digital studio photography. Many different special effects can be achieved using a range of techniques such as multiple exposures, strobe flash and painting with light.

Learn to be a Potter

Get messy with clay!  Be a potter for the day and learn the techniques and skills needed to design and create your very own piece of pottery.  Experiment with different applications and pick up professional tips.

Letterpress Printmaking

Taking place in HCA’s Print Workshop, use our lovely selection of woodblock letterpress alphabets to print some text with impact! Have something to say? Get it set in type and learn the basics of this vintage craft to create a poster or simple zine. Students will be able to use our big antique Albion press as well as one of the smaller presses.

Express Yourself! Drawing Workshop

Working in groups or pairs, you will be exploring fun, exciting and alternative methods of drawing to express yourself! Using music, the body and props, students should expect to create unique, expressive, large and small scale drawings to take home with them. Participants are advised to wear old clothes for this workshop as you will be using a variety of different mediums such as chalk and charcoal.
