Please note: Enrolment for this course is for 2020 entry.
This course provides an introduction to Art and Design techniques and experiences. It will give those who are excited and motivated by creativity with the first steps to explore, develop and demonstrate their skills.
This supportive qualification helps you establish the building blocks to art & design through a range of fun, practical teaching and learning opportunities.
Through innovative projects and experimentation you will enjoy discovering your own creativity alongside tutors and peers based in our specialist studios and workshops including:
• Printmaking, Pattern & Textiles
• Drawing & Painting
• 3D Applications like Wood, Acrylic, Ceramics & Plaster
• Digital Media & Photography
• Moving Image
There will be opportunities to experiment with drawing and image making and you will discover ways to record, understand and communicate how you see the world around you.
Problem-solving is a key area of the course and you will work on exciting projects which help you take creative risks and develop new ideas. You will study other artists and designers, improving your research skills. Working with some of HCA’s extensive external partnerships you will access meaningful and exciting work experience opportunities, and put your ideas and creativity into action through industry-led projects.
You will be coached through regular tutorials and assessed in a variety of ways: thinking about your own work, reflecting on the work of others, sharing your work in small groups. At the end of the course, instead of an exam, you will work towards a final public exhibition which will extend your professional practice skills as an artist, designer, or maker.
- Work related experience.
- Educational visits to galleries and events.
- Specialise in a chosen Art & Design area for a final project.
- Be a part of an end of year exhibition open to the public.
