with Lexi Strauss

Weekly sessions for those who wish to broaden their experience and knowledge and continue their observational practice in a social environment. Students should have some previous experience or have completed one of Lexi’s introductions to life drawing, drawing or painting courses.

Advice and guidance will be on hand for students to use the painting and drawing mediums of their own choice, with a life model every week, in a variety of both long and short poses.

We will provide some basic brushes and acrylic paint colours, paper, pencils, charcoal, etc, but students are invited to bring their own materials (oils, canvas, pastels, brushes, palettes, mediums, cleaning mediums, etc).

Lexi completed her MA in painting at the Royal College of Art in 2014 and her degree in Fine Art at Hereford College of Arts in 2011. Primarily a painter, she also creates theatrical installations that animate her work, and is a trained art clown performer, regularly creating performances that span the art, theatre and comedy world’s.

Current work includes a series of portraits of her diverse clown community, and she was recently funded by the Arts Council, England to explore the relationship between humour and trauma.

She frequently exhibits and performs nationally and internationally, including the John Moores painting prize and the Jerwood Drawing prize. Lexi was also nominated for Saatchi New Sensations (2014) and Shortlisted for New Contemporaries (2013). Her paintings are on permanent display at the New Hall Art collection at Cambridge University.

Bookings for our Autumn (October) short courses will open on 7th August 2023, 11am.
