Introduction

The Contact Course gives skills needed for independent living, making choices and the world of work. It provides a creative and supportive environment for students with learning difficulties.

It is a part-time course and students attend college 2 days a week, on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Course

The course includes communication and numeracy skills as well as social and life skills. There is a strong emphasis on creativity through art and design, media and Performing Arts.

Practical workshop activities include ceramics, printmaking, textiles and photography. Functional skills of literacy, number and I.T. are used across the curriculum. A separate certificate in Performing arts enables the students to take part in drama and music productions each year.

Structure

During the year Contact course students may work with students from Art and Design and Performing Arts and Music courses on integrated collaborative projects and productions.

The course is made up of the following qualifications:
Certificate in Performing Arts Level 1
Certificate in Personal and Social Development Entry Level 2
Certificate in Skills for Independence and Work Entry Level 2

After Your Course

Students can progress to a second year with the Contact Course, delivered at Entry level 3, other Further Education training schemes, or supported work placements.
