Performing Arts Audition Guide
A Guide to Your Interview/Audition

The purpose of your audition/interview:
Your audition day has two purposes. It allows you, the applicant, to find out more about the college and the course you have applied for. You will be able to meet staff and have a tour of our facilities. Secondly, the audition/ interview allows us to judge you and your work and your suitability for the course. Try to relax, it is not a test – we will not be trying to catch you out.

The audition/interview:
After a physical and vocal warm up, you will be asked to perform a classical and contemporary monologue, as well as a song that you have prepared. We will be looking at how well you have prepared your pieces and your understanding of the texts and characters. Please refer to ‘An Applicant’s Guide to Auditioning and Interviewing’ at
www.ncdt.co.uk for further useful information and tips.

You will then have an informal discussion with members of staff who will discuss your past experiences and why you want to study performing arts. You may also be asked about practitioners and/or work that inspires you. This will also be a good opportunity for you to find out more about the college and course that you are applying to.

What you should bring:
Appropriate movement wear that you feel comfortable in.

A written / word processed review of a live piece of theatre, concert or film you have seen (approximately 500 words)

What happens next?
There are a number of things that can follow your audition/interview. We will make a decision about your application. This may be discussed with you on the day informally and any decision will be communicated officially to UCAS. A letter from UCAS will make clear any conditions attached to the offer, for example, ‘successful completion of your current course’. You may also receive a letter from Hereford College of Arts discussing our decision.

Once you accept the offer and meet any conditions which apply, you will start receiving information about accommodation, registration, etc. Throughout this process please contact us should you have any queries.

If, during your interview, the member of staff interviewing you thinks that another course may be more suitable for you then you will be offered an interview or opportunity to apply for that course.

If you are not offered a place on one of our courses, this may be discussed with you on the day. If not, feel free to contact us to get feedback on the reasons why.
