Bad Weather

The College rarely closes due to adverse weather and will generally be open for staff and students who are able to travel to and from college safely.

Adverse Weather and Travel Disruption

UPDATE Tuesday 12th December at 3.45pm
HCA will open both campuses again on Wednesday for students and staff who are able to travel in safely.  We are on site today clearing snow from the car parks but expect parking to be limited so if you can walk safely or use public transport please do. We know conditions in different areas vary greatly and some staff and students will still be unable to attend so normal timetables are likely to be disrupted. Please don't forget to let us know if you are going to be absent, and please put safety first and take care.

UPDATE Monday 11th December at 3.30pm
Staff have been on-site today and able to fully assess the implications of Sunday's heavy snowfall.  Our car parks remain inaccessible.  For those staff and students within walking distance of college we also have significant safety concerns about ice tomorrow; after today's partial thaw, the current forecast is extreme cold (down to -9 degrees celsius) overnight, with temperatures expected to remain below zero during the day on Tuesday.
Therefore, both campuses of HCA will be closed tomorrow - Tuesday 12th December.  Students are encouraged to continue their studies at home. The principal will be emailing staff and students in addition to this website update.
We hope to be able to open college on Wednesday, but please check the website for more details during Tuesday.

UPDATE Monday 11th December at 11.30am: Our Folly Lane Ceramics, 3D and Small-Metals workshops are currently open.  Please note that HCA will close early at 2.30pm across both campuses.  We will update mid-afternoon re the situation for tomorrow.

UPDATE Re Art and Design 1st Year Trip to London: Tomorrow's planned trip to London (Tuesday 12th December) for 1st year Art and Design students has been CANCELLED due to the travel difficulties.  We hope to rearrange the trip for the new year.

UPDATE Monday 11th December 2017 at 8.00am: We are expecting very few students and staff today due to the travel difficulties and other weather related issues so limited facilities will be open in college.  Please note that following a risk assessment this morning we are closing the car parks.
All students may work at home but if you do want to come in and can do so safely we have heating!   We will continue to update on the website through the day.
Portfolio or Foundation students please go into the main building rather than the Foundation studio if you choose to come in.

UPDATE Sunday 10th December 2017 at 6.30pm: HCA will be open on Monday 11th December, but due to the weather and the difficulty some staff and students will face getting in we will not be able to operate a normal timetable.     We expect to have some studio areas, libraries and a number of workshops open, but we will update on workshop access in the morning.

Safety is our priority and we do not expect staff or students to attend unless travel conditions are suitable.

Please let us know if you are unable to attend, as detailed below:
