This week was Assessment week for the 1st year’s including their Textile Drawing Module.

They have presented a superb range of work which incorporates an extensive range of drawing techniques using different media and most importantly shows how they have taken risks with their drawing and tried new things. The Module used Natural Form and Florals as a focal point which for some proved very challenging!

Drawing in Textiles is about a natural, instinctive response to a visual stimulus, it is about drawing what you see in a creative and innovative way and the 1st years are certainly well on their way to honing their skills.

This Module has had them exploring mark making, drawing blind, drawing with sticks, drawing with the actual flowers, paper cutting with Visiting Lecturer Maddie and tackling colour and observational drawing with Visiting Lecturer Angela. (see previous blogs for more on those two workshop days). And we haven’t even started to consider how to manipulate paper, collage, printmaking, still life etc.

A great start to the year which see them developing technical and drawing skills in the first semester which they will now be putting in to practice with their new Project Briefs in Semester 2.
