ABAP is a second year module which is focussed on students exploring and testing a specific forge process and annotating, analysing and evaluating their findings in a technical journal.

Doug explored surface treatments. There are so many ways in which you can surface steel and yet so few of them are used. Sometimes there is so much energy that goes into the ideas, the design and then the making, that time runs out for testing and applying surfaces. It was, therefore, great to see Doug starting to test a range of surface treatments, from copper coating, brushed brass, gold leaf, renaissance wax and gun blue and lacquers, to name a few. I encourage all students to take on testing surface as part of their projects, I know Doug will find these samples very useful as he moves into future projects.
