Delivered as part of our degree programme in our recently acquired campus on College Road, this programme offers a highly flexible way of studying at a higher level. You will be taught alongside BA (Hons) Fine Art and BA (Hons) Contemporary Applied Arts students on degree level modules. You will be introduced to studio practice and you will develop your critical skills through the discussion of practical work supported by individual tutorials and regular group crits.

The programme is ideal if you are already working to a high standard and want to further advance your practice by taking advantage of the excellent teaching and facilities of our degree programmes.  It will also be of particular interest to students who wish to progress from the Portfolio Course and may not qualify for higher edcuation funding, should they already hold a degree in another subject.

Fine Art Pathway

Our main aim is that you should build-up your confidence as a practising artist through a process that will explore, challenge and develop the way you work.

Contemporary Applied Arts Pathway

The main aim of this pathway is to gain a greater understanding of the processes involved in crafts practice, and the importance of exploration, research and the development of ideas.

Key facts
  • With expert technical support and tuition, you will be allowed the experimental space in which to begin to manipulate and test a range of materials.
  • Greater understanding in which ideas are developed through a creative process and how an outcome can be achieved
  • Greater understanding of the creative process needed to become a successful craftsperson.



2 days a week, across 2 semesters in college plus additional study at home

Entry Requirements

  • Successful completion of the Portfolio Course(Foundation Diploma in Art & Design) or equivalent
  • All applicants will be interviewed and will be asked to present a portfolio of work demonstrating evidence of good visual literacy and an understanding of current contemporary practice related to their chosen pathway
